Here are 3 diy gift wrapping solutions for you IF-
- you’re short on time!
- you really need to wrap a gift!
- you only have plain paper on a roll!
- you’re not creative (or so you think!)
If you answered yes to any or all of the above, then this is a project you’ll want to try!
Now this diy gift wrapping project is ideal for any one, on any occasion or season. It can be for a child’s birthday, a wedding gift, a house warming present or any other time you need to give a gift. We chose to do our samples with a Christmas holiday flavor but all 3 can easily be changed to another theme.
You’re only limited by your own creativity (and supplies on hand).
Let’s get started!
Diy gift wrapping #1- natural kraft paper
This first sample may be the easiest of the 3 but believe me, they’re all quite simple!
All you do is keep the paper plain but add some interest (or wow factor!) with some bold ribbon. For this diy gift wrapping sample, we added a dramatic striped ribbon that played off the neutral kraft paper.
Another option would be to use some twine or jute ribbon with the kraft paper to make a more rustic look.
TIP: It’s always a good idea to buy your ribbon in larger rolls since it’s usually a better value and you always have some on hand!
Diy gift wrapping #2- white paper
For our second diy gift wrapping sample, we teamed up plain white paper with tissue paper!
Now, we love us some tissue paper…it’s incredibly versatile, comes in terrific colours and patterns and is quite inexpensive.
We chose a beautiful snowflake patterned tissue paper that went nicely with our plain white paper. Simply fold the tissue paper into a strip that fits the width of your box. A ribbon in a matching color is the perfect finish for your diy gift wrapping.

Diy gift wrapping #3- black paper
Our third and final sample is on plain black paper.
I have to say that this is my favorite one…the black paper is so dramatic! The white chalk pen that we used on this diy gift wrapping sample just pops off the black paper. A simple white ribbon looks striking on the black paper as well.
This sample was fun to do because the possibilities are endless on what you could draw. You could add a name, message or unique designs…be creative!
