Making the hat for your DIY Snowman cookie container-
Let’s start with the Snowman’s hat (or toque). Take your sheet of red tissue and lay it flat on your work surface.
Then cut your tissue paper sheet in half lengthwise. You will end up with (2) sheets that are 10″ wide x 30″ long. Since you will only need one sheet for your DIY Snowman cookie container project, set aside the other sheet.
Now, fold up the bottom of the tissue sheet approximately 1 1/2″. This will become the brim of the Snowman’s hat.
Flip the the sheet of tissue paper over so it is now laying face down. The brim should now be facing down on your work surface.
Using your pencil, measure 3 1/4″ from the bottom of the sheet. Lightly draw a line the entire length of the tissue sheet.
Starting at one end, make cuts approximately 1″ wide and to the pencil line. Work your way down the entire length of the tissue sheet.
Then when that’s done, flip your tissue sheet back again so that the pencil line is now face down. The hat brim should now be visible. Set aside.
Making the face on your DIY Snowman cookie container-
Place the lid on your container. This will make putting on the hat much easier.
Using your black marker, create the mouth and eyes of your DIY Snowman cookie container. Cut out a carrot shaped nose from the stiff orange paper. Glue/tape the nose to the container.
Attaching the hat on your DIY Snowman cookie container-
Now you’re ready to put the hat on your DIY Snowman cookie container!
Carefully place the hat brim along the flat side of the lid. Attach together where tissue ends meet at the back using glue or double sided tape.
Your DIY Snowman cookie container should now look like this!
Gently gather the top of the hat where the fringe cuts end. Tie the tinsel cord at the gather. Try not to pull too tightly as the tissue paper can tear. Don’t cut the ends of the tinsel cord yet!
Using the ends of the tinsel cord, attach the wooden spoon to the hat. Tie the remaining ends of the tinsel cord into a little bow.
Here is a close up of the container lid. Make sure that your tissue paper hat is secure and even with the container lid so it’s easy to remove from the container.
Assembling your DIY Snowman cookie container-
Fill your DIY Snowman cookie container with the (2) packages of hot chocolate mix and the mini marshmallows. Place your homemade cookies inside the cello bag and tie closed with the red ribbon.
Lastly, tuck the bag of cookies inside the container. You can always add a couple of little candies or chocolates if you have the room.
Now you’re ready to package up all your holiday baking in these containers!
This DIY Snowman cookie container project is so easy making it ideal even for kids! These would be perfect as teacher, coach and instructor gifts too.
Happy baking…and packaging!
