Add this tissue paper cactus (or cacti if you want a whole bunch!) to your party table decor. You can even turn them into mini pinatas if you fill them with candy inside. They’d make a cute party favour for your guests too!

In fact, this tissue paper cactus is so easy to make, it would be a great project for kids too. And you don’t have to worry about about any little hands getting pricked!

How to make a tissue paper cactus for your next fiesta!

To start, you’ll need 2 plain giftboxes, 1 box for the “cactus” and 1 box for the “pot” that it sits on. In the photo above, we have a smaller and a larger version. You can use any size of box you’d like.

For the smaller version we used a 5″ x 5″ x 3 1/2″ for the pot and a 7″ x 4″ x 3″ for the cactus part.

For the larger version, it’s a 6″ x 6″ x 4″ for the pot and a 9″ x 4 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ for the cactus.

Next, you’ll need some green tissue paper. Wrap your cactus box completely with the green tissue (like we did to the box on the left in the photo above).

From another sheet of tissue paper, cut 3″ wide strips the length of your sheet. Then, make cuts about 1/2″ apart to create the “pinata fringe” for your tissue paper cactus.

Now, attach (using glue or double sided tape) the pinata fringe to your cactus box, starting at the bottom. Keep adding layers of fringe till you get to the top of the box. Make sure each layer overlaps the previous layer.

Of course no tissue paper cactus is complete without a tissue paper flower! Find complete instructions on how to make your tissue paper flowers here. We wanted a little cactus flower so we made ours only 4″ wide.

You’ve got your cactus flower, cactus and a pot…now you’re ready to assemble your tissue paper cactus!

And there you have it!! Pretty easy, right?!

On the left we have the before version and on the right the finished cactus!! And since we LOVE ribbon, we added a little satin ribbon bow to our cactus pot in a matching pink color.

If you’re needing a few cacti to decorate your party table, try making them in different heights for visual interest.

Feeling even more creative??

Try making an even bigger tissue paper cactus!!

The cactus in the above photo is just as easy to make. All we did differently for this one is  instead of using a plain giftbox, we simply cut out a cactus shape out of cardboard.

Then we covered the whole cactus with green tissue paper and added the pinata fringe.

There are so many creative possibilities for a tissue paper cactus!

Try making one (or many!) for your next special event.
